Hallo, BPO calling →
From 2010 to 2012, $5 million was paid in 17,000 transactions to accounts controlled by the alleged fraudsters. Read the complete article. Even those of us in India are not safe. If some of the large BPO’s move out, the cabbies who ferry the callcenter employees, will become active rowdies and thugs, intimidating and extorting money from people on flimsy pretexts.

Some more Yoga →
A GREATER cause for concern for Karnataka’s liberals is the attempt to inject communal polarisation even in the cosmopolitan environs of Bengaluru, India’s IT hub. A casual visit to the Satyam and Infosys complexes makes for some disturbing observations… all in the pretext of yoga. Read the complete article.

On the prowl, get set ... Rowdy
While returning from Sarjapura, we stopped at San City Bakery for a cup of Lemon tea and our 3+ years old daughter was introduced to the Bakery owner’s girl. As the two girls were beginning to build on a conversation a local guy came to the Bakery. As he stood before the display counter waiting to be serviced, he picked up Aviva’s (my daughter) cap, made a grunting sound and put...

The 'new normal' or 'paranormal'
Bill Gross’ write up on the investment outlook for 2012: The New Normal, previously believed to be bell-shaped and thin-tailed in its depiction of growth probability and financial market outcomes, appears to be morphing into a world of fat-tailed, almost bimodal outcomes. A new duality – credit and zero-bound interest rate risk – characterizes the financial markets of 2012, offering...

Semi-urban and Rural India growth done.
In the past few years, it was the semi-urban and rural India that demonstrated remarkable consumerism, leading to higher sales from cosmetics to condiments to cars. With tightening agricultural credit and economic slowdown the discretionary spending has halted and income has flattened out.

Bombay Lucky Restaurant at Bunder, Mangalore - one...
The one thing that distinguishes a great restaurant is the quality of food they prepare and serve. Most of us would agree that it is the awesome food that matters when all the makeup (read ambience, fountains, allergic rhinitis causing perfume drenched stewards, lipstick dhari ‘how may i help you’, big massive paintings, extra cold air-conditioning, extra flabby lobby etc) is...

Post sumptuous lunch at Malabar Hotel where we literally feasted on fish, a suggestion came up to explore some icecream. We asked people around in the hotel and at a showroom. One of the gentleman animatedly stated, “Just like Taj Mahal is famous in India, Ideal’s icecream is famous in Mangalore”. Another person said, “can you see that big tree across the junction,...
